We started off just thinking about ourselves. We didn't give you a second thought. Out of a desire to create a simple, accurate tax calculator, we made our first one in Google Sheets in 2023.
Like every husband and wife team, our lives were turned upside down in 2022 when baby Henry arrived. These have been the best two years of our lives. Even with all the standing on Duplo in the middle of the night silent screams, spaghetti messes, sleepless nights, and nappy blowouts (if you know, you know; if you don't, you can imagine).
We were lucky that for the first year we had help from family, and he didn't have to go to nursery. But in 2023, it was time to find him a place to play. Naturally, we had to check our wallets to see what we could afford, and that’s when we built the Income Tax Calculator.
It was our first calculator, but it wouldn’t be our last. Not only did we want to know how much we could get paid, but we also wanted information on other aspects of our financial lives, including mortgages, debt, and a whole host of other calculators.
That’s when we realized there were zero websites offering a comprehensive suite of financial calculators. So, we decided to build it ourselves.
You might think we’re exaggerating, but try to find a clean, easy-to-use mortgage overpayment calculator and a childcare costs calculator on the same website. In fact, try finding a childcare costs calculator anywhere—you’ll struggle.
There are some websites out there, but none that have everything in one place. The ones that do exist either focus on form or function, but rarely both.
We've both worked in financial services for the last 12 years. Many of which have been spent dealing with the most vulnerabe customers firms have. There have been some truly sad stories over the years, but also some very rewarding moments, when it all came together.
We want to broaden our reach and help as many people as possible navigate the waters of personal finance and achieve the financial freedom we believe everyone should have.
So that's our story so far... but the journey is just beginning. As with all journeys, we need to pick the direction we want to head. So, how about a Mission Statement and some pledges?....
